Your GPS should be set as follows:
Because Canungra is positioned between the sprawling cities of Brisbane and
the Gold Coast, ALL of these sites are very sensitive. In most cases we are
permitted to use the launch or landing areas thanks entirely to the goodwill of
local landowners. It is absolutely imperative that you obey ALL of the rules
pertaining to the use of these sites and make yourself familiar with the no
landing zones in the valleys around Canungra. A map detailing the major areas of
contention as well as some of the hazards of flying the region will be displayed
on the notice board at competition headquarters. It would be a very good idea to
study this map thoroughly and PLEASE always drive slowly and with consideration
for all other road users in the valleys around Canungra. Cars loaded with
gliders are highly visible and just one annoyed landowner could jeopardise ALL
of the sites in the region.
All pilots must be members of the Hang Gliding Federation of Australia for the
duration of the event. Please check your membership status BEFORE leaving home.
Overseas visiting pilots to Australia will need to obtain Visiting Pilot Memberships.
Visiting Pilot Memberships may be taken out by returning the following two forms to the HGFA which will cover the pilot for 4 Months from date of issue.
This form of membership is only renewable once in any 12 month period from the date of the initial application. The cost of a Visiting Pilot Membership is AU$70.
Pilots must provide evidence of their international pilot qualification, preferably an IPPI card issued from their home country.

All pilots must hold IPPI PARA PRO
5 rating, or the minimum of an (HGFA)Intermediate Paragliding rating with at
least 50 hours of inland flying experience. Spring in SE Queensland can produce
demanding flying conditions which may be unsuitable for inexperienced pilots.
Task verification will be achieved using track logs downloaded from each
pilot's GPS.
All Pilots are required to provide a 3D Tracklog.
The competition accepts most GPS's using Lat/Long DDD MM SS.S format.
We will supply cables to suit Garmin , Flytec, Bräuniger, Aircotec, MLR.
Pilots using other types of GPS's will need to supply their own cables.
These may be left with the scorer for the duration of the competition.
Background information on the use of GPS for flight verification can be found at
http://www.hgfa.asn.au/competition/gps/gpstrack.htm
The competition will be scored using the OzGAP 2005 or
GAP 2007 scoring
system and as of yet the Lead Out point situation is undecided.
The following parameters are likely, pending Sanction approval:
As an FAI CAT 2 competition, we will be adhereing to
FAI Sporting Code Section7B and
FAI Sporting Code General Section guidelines.
The competition will be run according to the most current version of the Hang
Gliding Federation of Australian Competitions Manual.
Competitions Manual Edition 6.6.
Ammendements to these rules necessary because of local conditions will be
announced at the first briefing and posted on the competition notice board.

A detailed topographical map of the region will be provided to all pilots. This
map will include details of turn points, goals and roads to facilitate
retrieves.
Maps & Waypoints for Canungra Cup 2008
Experience over the past decade has shown that October is the optimal time for
competitive soaring in the Canungra area. The prevailing easterly airflow,
instability and excellent lapse rates have provided outstanding cross-country
flying conditions for both Paragliders and Hang gliders at this time of year. A
short weather forecast as well as the latest satellite photo and synoptic chart
will be presented at the morning briefings.

There are four launch sites in the Canungra area which we have permission to use
for the competition. These sites and their optimal wind directions are detailed
below:
The competition headquarters will be the Canungra RSL
which is on the road out of Canungra towards Mt Tamborine and Beechmont. The registration desk will be
open for a short time immediately after the first daily briefing and from 18.00
to 20.00 for lodgement of tracklogs and landing forms (although the office may open earlier at
the scorer's discretion).
All pilots must sign the waiver declaration and have it witnessed before
participating in the event. Declarations must be signed at the registration desk
at the competition headquarters on Friday evening (10th October) or at the
first briefing.
All communication during the event will be by means of Australian CB - UHF (476.425 MHz to 477.400 MHz) radios.
Official channels will be designated at the first briefing and groups of
pilots will be able to nominate their own team channel.
In Australia, 2 Metre - VHF (144 MHz - 148 MHz) radios can only be used with an Australian Amateur Radio Licence.
Canungra is near the major population centres of Brisbane and the Gold Coast which means the 2 Metre
Frequencies are monitored and fines issued for illegal use.
